Dr. V. Armstrong

Dr. Asia V. Armstrong, 41, of Gahanna, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on March 24, 2020 at her residence in the presence of her loving husband and three children.

She was born on January 06, 1979, in Cleveland, OH to Patricia A. and Arthur Brown Jr.

She graduated from Warrensville Heights High School in 1997. From there, she attended and graduated from The Ohio State University, where she would earn her degrees of Bachelor in Science in Human Ecology (6/2001) and Master of Education (08/2002).

She met Darius at the Ohio State University in 1998 and the two were Married on August 3, 2002 in Columbus, OH at the Columbus Christian Center Church, where they formed many lifelong friendships and studied the Word of God under the leadership of Dr. David C. Forbes Jr. Their children were born in 2003 (Darius Jr.), 2005 (Madison) and 2008 (Davis).

Later, Asia matriculated to Concordia University, where she would earn the Degree of Doctor of Education (05/2018) under the guidance of Dr. Rebecca Hornberger and Dr. Pam Konkle.

Dr. Armstrong had the honor of serving as an Educator, Assistant Principal, Principal , Job Coach, and District Administrator for the Faith Christian Academy of Columbus and the Columbus City, Westerville, Canal Winchester and Worthington School Districts in Ohio. In addition to these roles, she also served on the Board of Directors as the Minority Representative for the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators and as a Spokesperson for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society - Ohio Buckeye Chapter.

Dr. Armstrong's achievements were fueled by her passion for the field of education and her love of seeing others, both adult and children, grow and succeed. She consistently poured herself into to work needed to elevate her staff and students. She was even willing to sacrifice her comfortability and "status " in the name of making a connection with the children for whom she served. She was a lover of and purveyor of education and self improvement, to her core.

Her love for education were eclipsed only by her love of God and Family.

She loved God and His word and lived life as a living testament of His Love.

Asia had an uncanny ability to light up a room and immediately enrich the lives of those who met her. She relied on her Faith in GOD and the comfort and support of her family and friends to be her strength in the challenging times. In her down time, she loved to laugh with family and friends whether it was during a good movie or tv show or during a great conversation over food. Her and her husband bonded over the tv show "MARTIN", while she later enjoyed the guilty pleasures of a little reality tv and the medical shows on TLC. She absolutely loved the Christmas season and everything that comes with it! In addition to the sacrifices and outpouring of love given to education and others, she was a more devoted Mother and Wife. She made it a point to prioritize her husband and children's well-being ahead of everything and insisted that they knew that they were loved by her. She availed herself to their interests and made a point to be present and supportive in their education and activities, as well.

She became an avid runner and completed multiple half marathons and long distance races, AFTER being diagnosed with the generally debilitating disease of Multiple Sclerosis in 2006. She accepted the challenge and met it head on. Amongst many other things, this was a great source of inspiration for those that know and love her. She grew to love running, stating that when she ran she felt most "like herself" and that she would do what she could, while she still could. That's just what she did! She later was diagnosed with Renal Cancer in 2017. She accepted this challenge as well and fought this disease with valor, strength, grace and dignity! Though her faith was tested, it was never lost and she kept it until her last moments here.

Dr. Armstrong is an Overcomer in Christ and a once in a lifetime, special human being! Her smile, laughter, strength, resolve, leadership, love and presence will be dearly missed.

Dr. Armstrong was preceded in death by her grandparents , Liz and Chuck Solomon, and George and Bernice Armstrong (In-Laws).

She is survived by her husband, Darius; three children, Darius Jr., Madison, and Davis; Mother, Patricia Merritt; Father, Arthur Brown Jr. (Ferdina Pratt); Derrick and Christie Armstrong (In-Laws); Grandmothers,(Great) Julia Mae Rice, Rose Lean Brown , Margaret Byrd (In-Law); Siblings, Michelle Jackson(Al), Tamika Williams (Rickey), Ciaira Warfield (Anthony), Braxton Short, Derian Armstrong (Shaindal) (In-Law),Derrond(Venita) (in-Law); Best Friend, Rhonda Childs; Aunts, (Great) Mary Martin (Lendale), Debra Taylor, Detrice Fields (Stan), Veronica Brown; Uncles, Johnes Solomon (Donita), Kenny, Jeffrey, Chester and Gregory Brown; Cousins, Donald "Mook" Taylor, Daidra Taylor, Stanita Nichols, Dedra Fields, Tiana McKinstry, Lendale Martin Jr., Dr. Terrin Martin and Darrell Martin; Nieces/Nephews, Tremaine, Trevon, and Treshawn Williams, Jordyn, Amaya and Anthony III Warfield, Aphrodite, Max and Athena Armstrong, Jordan, Derronda, Dejanae and De' Asia Armstrong and an abundance of other relatives, extended family and friends, former students, staff, colleagues, mentors and the Education Community.

The family thanks the caregivers at The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital, The Ohio State Pain and Palliative Team, Ohio Health Neurological and Hospice Teams for their tender loving care.

A Memorial Service in honor of Dr. Armstrong is planned for Saturday, 1:00pm on March 20, 2021 at the Northwest Chapel in Powell, Ohio, with the allotted time of 11:00am - 1:00 pm to greet and pay respects to her family. Times are barring any changes required due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
