CMSgt. (Ret.) Samuel Charles Wallis, age 95, of Powell, Ohio went to be with our Lord April 12, 2020 under the care of hospice. Born in Covington, KY. February 22, 1925 to Charles Samuel Wallis and Cecilia Emma Wallis, oldest of five children.
Sam was a loving husband to Alice Springer Wallis (deceased) for 64 years, and is survived by his children Sherry Wallis Lesiak (Jan), Thomas Samuel Wallis (Jackie), Michelle Wallis Morris (Tom) and Charles Samuel Wallis, his grand children Nathaniel Morris, Emily Morris Randle, Christopher Morris, Samuel Wallis and great grand children Sophia Randle and Noah Randle.
Sam served as a waste gunner on a B-17 bomber and flew 30 missions over Europe during WWll. After the war Sam returned home and married Alice Springer whom he met before leaving for war. He reenlisted during the Korean War and served a tour in Vietnam. Sam had distinguished career spanning 22 years retiring as a Chief Master Sargent. He loved his country and served bravely.
His numerous medals included the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Bronze Star. During their years in the Air Force Sam and Alice traveled extensively both with the USAF and on their own. Always an adventurer, Sam was a man with great wanderlust and passion for seeing and experiencing new places, and that remained with him to his final days.
Upon retiring from service, Sam had a distinguished career as a civil servant in Golden, Colorado until he retired. During his years in Colorado, Sam was active in the Mason's and the Noble Cycle's motorcycle group. Sam loved to ride his motorcycle on road trips with the group and in various parades throughout the years. Upon retiring he and Alice moved to Tucson, Az. where they made their home for 17 years.
Active members of the Sabino Road Baptist Church, Sam and Alice made many close friends there. Sam and Alice moved to Ohio to be close to family in 2003 and enjoyed being close to their daughters and grandchildren. While in Ohio Sam continued his active lifestyle. As members of Worthington Christian Church they were active in the Good News class and made more good friends. He remained in Ohio until his death.
Sam was an outdoorsman, a hunter and a fisherman. He loved to fly and flew ultralight airplanes often while living in Az. He was an avid car enthusiast and enjoyed owning and refurbishing cars through the years, building two from kits as well. His passion for travel, his lust for life, love of family, his humor, and enjoyment of a good gin martini are what will be remembered.
A loving husband, father and friend, Sam will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
