Samuel Henry Cooper, 89, passed away August 5, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jeanne Cooper, his daughter Rebecca Workman, and stepson Robert Shipley. Samuel is survived by his daughter Maryann Felps, son Jeff Cooper, and stepdaughters Omeda Hall and Lydia Bossard, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Alvena Richards, and brother, James Bowling.
Sam was born in West Liberty, Kentucky, in 1931, and moved to Columbus at age 9. He has resided in in Columbus most of his life, graduating from West High School. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1948 and was honorably discharged in 1950.
Later in life, Sam felt the calling to the ministry and became a pastor in 1975. He then earned a bachelor's degree from Adrian College in Michigan in 1979, a Master of Divinity from the Methodist Theological School in Delaware, Ohio, in 1982, and a PhD from Columbia Pacific University in Theology.
Sam retired from the United Methodist Church in 1989 and lived in Columbus thereafter. He enjoyed philosophy and sports.
Visitation Tuesday, August 11, 2020 from 11am to 12pm at Newcomer, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH. Graveside Service to follow at 12:30pm at Concord Cemetery ,Grove City, OH.
