Thomas R Hinkle

September 15, 1948 — October 30, 2020

Thomas "Tom" Richard Hinkle, 72, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Tom was born in Butler, PA on September 15, 1948 to Armida (Tosi) and Clair Hinkle. He graduated from Butler High School in 1966, joining the Air Force the same year, where he served his country in Vietnam as an Aircraft Radio Repairman. After returning home, he went on to graduate from Franklin University with a degree in Electronics Engineering in 1974. Tom was instrumental in founding Carolina Coast Vineyard Church in Wilmington, NC.

A loving father, husband, grandfather (Paw-Paw), big brother, great-great grandfather, and friend to everyone. Tom loved sports, especially baseball and football. His favorite team(s) were the Cleveland Indians, the OSU Buckeyes (battle between Penn State) and Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a perfectionist at many things, with a passion for the beach, communication, technology, woodworking and ceramics. He was forced to give up the career he loved due to his health. He spent his free time watching sport on TV with his sons and grandchildren and participating in Bible studies at church. He also enjoyed traveling with his late wife, Teresa. Cruising around the world, listening to music, watching movies and reading the Bible. Tom was always very positive, and appreciative of the country he served while treating all people he encountered with respect and gratitude.

Tom is survived by his daughter Jennifer (Zachary) Cline, sons Kevin (Bobbie) Hinkle and Ben (Kendra) Hinkle, stepdaughter Deborah (Eric) Bell, brothers Ron and Joe Hinkle, and many loving grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Teresa Hinkle, stepson Michael Garrett and parents Armida (Tosi) and Clair Hinkle.

A special thank you to the people at Riverside Methodist Hospital for always providing loving care and support during his visits and final hours.

Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards our friends and employers for being very accommodating and understanding during this difficult time.

A private goodbye will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel on Monday, November 9. A public celebration of life for Tom will be determined at a later date.

Tom will be laid to rest at the Blendon Central Cemetery, next to his wife of 24 years, Teresa Hinkle, in Westerville, Ohio.

Dad, you gave no one a last farewell, nor ever said good-bye. You were gone before we knew it. A million times we will miss you and a million times we will cry and ask why. In our hearts you hold a place, no one else can ever fill. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone, for a part of each of us went with you that cold October day, the day you laid to rest and were finally at peace. You will forever be with us and live in our hearts. While you were here on earth we are grateful for the time we had and the many memories made. Loved beyond words, Missed beyond measure. Always and Forever in our hearts.
