Herbert Humphrey Jr. was born in Ligon, KY on March 13, 1936 to the late Herbert Humphrey and Nanny Slone.
He passed quietly at home Friday, September 23rd surrounded by family.
He was 86 years old.
He is preceded in death by a daughter Pamela Jo and son Shane, and two sisters (Ruby and Lucy) and four brothers (Charles, Palmer, James and Clinton), along with a step son and two step daughters. Herb leaves behind son Shannon (Dawn) Humphrey, Scott (Patty) Humphrey, step son Hugh (Darcy) Kocab, grandchildren Brook (James) Humphrey-King, Alex Humphrey, Megan Humphrey, James Duke, Cody Humphrey, and Shilynn Humphrey, great-grandchildren Violet and Daisy King, and several other step grand and great-grandchildren, his long time best friend Denny, and many nieces and nephews.
Before retirement, Herb was an employee of the Favret Company for over fifty years and a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 189.
He was a veteran and served as a tank commander in the Korean War. Herb spent most of his time watching the news and debating politics with anyone who would listen, and he also won many awards over the years with his hunting dogs.
Showing and services will be conducted at Newcomer Funeral Home 3047 E Dublin Granville Rd., Columbus, OH 43231 on Thursday, September 29th from 5-8pm. and will also be live streamed for those who may not be able to attend.
