Harvey Alan "Harve" Hignite, 68, passed away at home December 31, 2022 at 7:32 AM following an extended illness. He was born September 25, 1954 to Doyle Hignite and Loretta Hughes Hignite Roach.
He was preceded in death by his father Doyle, step father Leroy Roach, mother Loretta, and sister Sarah "Doylene" (Al) Skarjune. He is survived by his sister Nancy (Gary) Haggitt and brother James Hignite. He is also survived by his children Christine (Wes) Watson, Robert Hignite, Doyle Hignite, and Megan (Josh) Duncan.
Harvey was first love to both of his girls, whom both referred to and declared him "The Most Handsome Daddy in the World".
Harvey considered himself grandpa to Christine's step sons Dylan and Clay Watson. He even referred to Christine's menagerie of furry "children" as his Granddogs and Grandkitties (but we won't tell anyone, lest someone know he wasn't always a big tough guy, but could be softened by the affection of a chihuahua).
The greatest loves of his life were his grandchildren - Megan's son Mason Cook and Doyle's children Kaitlyn, Karley and Lucas Hignite. He loved his grandbabies more than life itself. He was known to show every person he came across and had a chance to speak to, their pictures and bragged about how handsome the boys and beautiful the girls are. To any boys who have future intentions of breaking these gorgeous girl's hearts - Grandpa is watching!
He was a cousin and uncle to a huge extended family, whom we are sure have many fond memories and stories to tell of his exploits and shenanigans.
In his youth he was an avid hunter and remained a fisherman his whole life. He spent most summers fishing and camping in Kentucky and Tennessee. He was most at peace in the woods and along lake shores. He was a Supervisor for WearEver in Chillicothe for 20 years until their closure in the early 1990's. He finished out his working career as a Corrections Officer for the State of Ohio in Lucasville.
Harvey was a teller of tall tales and often to the embarrassment of his daughters, had no filter on what would come out of his mouth. Even in his final days, when he was barely able to speak - out of the blue, he would say something so shockingly inappropriate, his girls would just look at each other and laugh and laugh until the tears rolled down their cheeks. He was a life long Buckeyes fan. He was rarely seen without a Buckeyes hat and tshirt.
His daughters would like to acknowledge his brother Jim for the months and months he cared for Harvey. We know it was hard, we know it wasn't easy and we know he didn't always show appreciation for what you did for him. However, we saw and know how hard it was and we thank you not just from the bottom of, but with our whole hearts.
We also would like to thank his primary RN Mitzi and his LSW Courtney of Hospice of Central Ohio. They were earthly angels to him and thankfully had the chance to be charmed by him before he was lost. He loved them and we thank you so much for the sweetness and kindness they showed him and for sitting with us, talking and laughing about this special man who touched so many.
Harvey fought a long and hard battle. He did not want to leave his grandbabies. He finally gave up his fight to the whispered promises that we would take care of everything and he no longer needed to worry. He passed quietly and peacefully with his daughter "Tator" (Christine's) head on his chest and his "Megatron" (Megan) holding his hand and her head to his head.
We love you Daddy. Go rest high on that mountain. Your work on Earth is done. This isn't goodbye, it's until we see you healthy and strong again in Heaven.
Per his wishes, there will be no visitation or calling hours.
