Lora Ann Augenstein, 68, of Gahanna, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on August 2, 2023. She was born on October 31, 1954 in Anderson, Indiana to Paul and Helen Hummel and had an older brother, Don Hummel. Lora's parents and brother all sadly preceded her in death.
As a young adult, Lora made the brave decision to move away from her family and pursue a new life in Ohio. She found a vibrant, active, and sarcastic man and decided to spend the rest of their lives together. Lora and Dave had three children, Emily (Peter) Mitchell, Nathanael Augenstein, and Jacobsen (Sarah) Augenstein. Lora channeled her career as a teacher and homeschooled her three children. Her children are forever grateful for her impact on their intelligence, independence, and tenacity. Above all, she modeled a strong relationship with the Lord to each of them, and passed down a legacy of faith. The Lord was the most precious thing to her and it showed in her constant generosity and love towards others.
Lora was known to all who loved her as a kind, loving, and giving person who poured into the lives of others. Her home was always the place for fun, food, and laughter. She loved hosting and feeding people at her house. Emily, Nathanael, and Jacob can't wait to eat her green bean casserole, graham cracker crumble, and cherry cheesecakes again.
She was the primary caregiver to her husband in the 15 years of his cancer journey. Dave would not have been able to make it without her and she was a bright spot not only for him, but countless nurses assisting with Dave's recovery. After his death, Lora poured into the lives of others by tutoring children of several families in Columbus, joining her "Fab 5" group at her beloved church, and creating a women's ministry. Her new grandaughter, Zoe, was also the light of her life during this time and brought her endless smiles and joy. After Dave's death, Lora would frequently talk about how faith was sustaining her during this transition and how God was "going ahead of her."
Lora's death has caused immense sorrow but we are comforted in knowing that she is finally at peace with the Lord and is reunited with her beloved husband.
