Gerald Fleming Coe, age 93, of Westerville, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. Born on July 25, 1930 to Henry Everett and Ermina Ruth (Fleming) Coe, both deceased.
Being the youngest of 6 children, he was also preceded in death by brothers Norman and Billy; sisters Joyce Nicholson, Eileen Walcutt and Eloise White; and son Daniel Coe.
Gerald married the love of his life, Marilynn Ilene Young, on September 30, 1951. Just a month shy of celebrating their 72nd wedding anniversary, they shared a long, wonderful life together. He is also survived by son, Steve Coe (Jeannine) of Fort Pierce, Florida, and daughter, Cindy Coe of Centerburg, Ohio. He leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Westerville High School in 1948, he joined the Army National Guard and served as a Sergeant at Camp Polk, Louisiana for three years during the Korean Conflict. Upon discharging from the Army, he worked at North American Aviation for 5 years, Westerville Creamery for 25 years, then at Liebert Corporation in Worthington for another 11 years. Growing up on his parents 200 acre dairy farm in southern Delaware County, Gerald continued to care for his own little ten acre farm just down the road and to help his folks as much as he could. Over many years he completely remodeled the old farmhouse they bought in 1955.
They raised the kids (and many beloved dogs) there until moving to Columbus in 1998. He loved being outdoors splitting firewood, mowing several acres or just putzing around in the barn. A wonderful, kind and loving father, his greatest passion in life was always spending time with his beloved Marilynn. He will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial service will be held at a later date for immediate family.
