Abbi L Phillips, age 58 of Hilliard, OH, passed away at home, peacefully in her sleep on November 24, 2023. She was born on May 28,1965 in Atlanta, GA. Abbi is survived by her daughter Cloé (Karma) Cooper, mother Freda Martin, sister Kelli (Marty) Whalen and niece Jordan Whalen. She was preceded in death by father Charles Martin. Abbi grew up on the west side of Portsmouth, Ohio, a small Appalachian town that sits on the banks of the Ohio River. She spent her adolescence working with her sister Kelli at the dairy bar a few blocks from home, and was proud to graduate from West High School as a Varsity Senators Cheerleader. Abbi went on to earn her bachelors degree in English at The Ohio State University, and was a dedicated Buckeye football fan. She worked for a decade as a nail technician at MSalon in downtown Columbus, while simultaneously earning her teaching certification at Ohio Dominican University. She spent the first half of her career as a middle and elementary school English and Social Studies teacher in many West Side Columbus Public City Schools. For the past 15 years, up until the day she found her wings, she was a highly awarded, impactful and loved 3rd and 4th grade teacher at Performance Academies. Abbi genuinely loved her students past and present, and strove each day to be an educator that they could rely on, look up to, and trust. She cherished being in the classroom, and will be remembered by her family, friends, colleagues and pupils as someone who left a spark of hope for the future and an excitement for knowledge in everyone she knew.
Friends may call at Newcomer Funeral Home, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. A Celebration of life service will begin at 6:00pm with an open opportunity for loved ones to speak and celebrate the impact and positivity she brought to their lives.
