Adelbert "Del" Ohm, age 94, of Westerville passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville. He was born in Cleveland on July 16, 1928 as the third child of the late Walter and Mildred (Risch) Ohm. In addition to his parents, Del is preceded in death by his brothers, Walter (Bud) Ohm, William (Bill) Ohm; sister, Laverne (Ohm) Steindam and grandson, Andrew Drake.
Del is survived by his loving wife, Mary, who was his partner in life for 62 years; sons, Brad Ohm, Steven (Cathy) Ohm, David (Tishia) Ohm; step-daughter, Karen (Skivers) Drake; grandchildren, Kaleb Ohm, Jonathan Ohm, Sydney Skeie, Bella Skeie; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Del spent much of his early life living with his Aunt Elsie and Uncle Ray on a farm outside of Oak Harbor, Ohio. After high school, Del enlisted in the military and served in both Navy and Army during the years of the Korean Conflict. His primary life work was for the government as an inspector and he became a semi-retired school bus driver in his late 50s. He was blessed with a very long retirement which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Del lived next door to Mary and he started dating the girl next door in his thirties. They were married on October 22, 1960. They moved from Toledo to Columbus in 1962 and the rest of the story was written there.
Del and Mary were bound together by faith, attended Karl Road Baptist Church for over 54 years and were regular members of their Sunday school class. In the mid-years of their marriage they enjoyed square dancing and bowling with their friends. In the later years, they took great joy in hosting family gatherings and cheering the Buckeye sport teams from their armchairs.
Del's hobbies included bike riding, carving, putting together jigsaw puzzles and exercising. He took great delight in climbing a large sand dune at 80 and bicycling with his sons well into his 80s. He also taught himself Tai Chi by video.
At the calling of the Lord, he voluntarily served as an Ombudsman at a nursing home for years and advocated for patient needs. At church, he served as an usher and a deacon. Del led a full life and continued to be willing to follow God and use his energy for living as long as he could. Del will be sorely missed by family, friends and neighbors.
Those wishing to make a donation in Del's memory should do so to the American Cancer Society.
