Adele M. Zachary Hazeltine was born on December 25, 1923, in Chicago, IL to Adeline M. Goode and Robert J. Sampson. She passed peacefully after a brief illness on November 8, 2023 at Wesley Glen in Columbus, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands William N Zachary and Harry E Hazeltine, sister , Jackee Stauss; son, William Zachary Jr.; stepson, Harry Hazeltine, II; and granddaughter, Linda Reimschuessel. She is survived by daughter, Cora Reimschuessel; stepdaughter, Karen(Norval) Foss and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Hazeltine, in addition to numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren and her special friend, Michele Griffin.
Adele moved to Fresno with her family when she was eleven and graduated from Fresno High School. She attended San Jose State College. She married William Zachary in 1946 and had two children, Cora and William Jr., who they raised in Redding and Sacramento, CA, where they co-owned WN Zachary Realty. They also owned and operated the Hat Creek Inn in Old Station, CA. Adele was a real estate broker. She was a past president of the Shasta County Board of Realtors, past vice president of District 2 of the California Real Estate Association (CREA) and chairwoman of the CREA'S North Women's Division. She was a life member of the Redding Soroptimist Club and life member of Redding Elks. She was past president of the Shasta Regional Hospital Volunteers and served on the Redding YMCA board, in addition to memberships in several other civic organizations.
After William's death, she married Harry Hazeltine in 1967 and worked with him in Craig, Craig and Hazeltine Insurance Agency until their retirement in 1980 when they sold the agency. For the next 25 years, they enjoyed traveling in their RV, to Yuma and Mexico during the winter and to Port Townsend, WA, and Trinidad, CA, in the summer months. They both were avid fishermen and golfers.
Adele moved to Grove City, OH in 2012 to live with her daughter, Cora, after husband, Harry's death in 2011. The past ten years, she continued traveling, cruising around the Hawaiian Islands, through the Panama Canal and to Montreal. She liked visiting family and historical sites along the East Coast from Maine to Florida and the Midwest from the Upper Peninsula, Michigan , to Tennessee. She became an avid Buckeye fan, rarely missing a game during football season. She was a voracious reader, making good use of the Grove City Library. She loved her dachshunds and would sit for hours with her favorite, Slinky.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Wesley Glen for their caring treatment during the past month. Adele loved being "Grandma" to many of those who were caring for her. Cremation is being provided by Newcomer Funeral Home in Grove City. Inurnment will be at a later date with private family services at the Redding (CA) Memorial Park.
