Alfonzo Horton was born January 14, 1935 in Welch WV, son of the late Earl Horton Sr. and Josephine Horton-Fitzgerald and departed this life on March 6, 2012 at O.S.U. Wexner Medical Center.
He was educated in Pocahontas, Virginia and West Virginia Public Schools. Al enlisted in the Air Force on November 4, 1953 and served heroically where he received the National Defense Service Medal.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Nathaniel Fitzgerald Sr.; sisters, Louise (Robert P.) Dillard, Josephine Fitzgerald; brothers, James (Hattie Lee) Horton, George Horton, Earl (Mary) Horton, Clarence Horton; nephew, William G. Dillard II.
Al leaves to mourn his beloved sister, M. Patricia (Arthur) Lowe of Columbus; brothers, Nathaniel (Renetta) Fitzgerald Jr. of Roselle, New Jersey and Harold Fitzgerald of Columbus, Ohio; sister's-in-law, Jeraldine Horton of Washington, D.C. and Ethel Horton of Bowie, Maryland; uncle, Douglas Fitzgerald; aunt, Adelia Fitzgerald both of Columbus, Ohio; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 11, 2012 from 4:00-5:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus, with the funeral service beginning at 5:00 PM. Graveside service will be in Eastlawn Cemetery on Monday, March 12, 2012 at 10:00 AM.
