CARDER

Alfred A. Carder, 87, Westerville, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. Alfred was born in Bristol, West Virginia, on March 24, 1923, to Grover and Lillian (Norris) Carder. They preceded him in death as did two brothers; William Earl and Grover Lee (Sam); sister, Katherine Watson. Alfred graduated from Central High School in 1941 and received his Doctor of Motors Degree in 1948. He was a Veteran of World War II, spending most of his time in India with the 745th Railway Operating Bn. He was a Post Commander of Linden V.F.W. Post 3826 and served on the Jeffrey Credit Union Board for a number of years. Alfred retired from the Jeffrey Mining and Manufacturing Company in 1988, with 46 ½ years of service. During his retirement, he taught Drivers Education for the AAA Driving School and for Schwartz Driving School. Alfred loved to camp and along with his wife, Mary Lou, took their children camping all over the United States and took the grandchildren camping all over Ohio. He was a member of the Church of Messiah United Methodist in Westerville. Alfred is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Lou (Bailey) Carder; children, Fred (Candi) Carder, Marijane (Jim) Pfirsch, Rob (Teresa) Carder, Carijo Osborne; ten grandchildren, Dan (Tamara Criswell) and Scott Carder, Adam, Justin and Robin Pfirsch, Amy (Adam) Muehlenbruch, Krista Hawse and Shannon Carder, Heather (John) Ahrns, Brian (Lori) Osborne; eight great-grandchildren, Fionnuala, Hollie, Zaden, Kailee, Corrynn, Carder, Jenna, Lauren; sister, Jane Carles; many nieces, nephews and good friends. He was a devoted husband and loving family man. He will be sadly missed by all. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, 1-3PM and 5-8PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, NE Chapel, 3047 East Dublin Granville Road, Columbus, OH with the Funeral Service on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Mount Carmel Hospice, 6150 East Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43213. Reverend Steven Putka will officiate.
