Alfred E. Woodson, 85, Columbus, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011. Alfred was born in Columbus, OH on April 11, 1925, to Charles and Ruth (Banks) Woodson and is preceded in death by his parents and step-parents, Fred Reed and Mary Woodson; brothers, William (Bertha) and Charles (Phyllis) Woodson. Survivors include his sister, Anna Lee Banks of Chicago; many nieces, nephews, cousins; devoted friends, Loneste Blackwell, Perry Ryno; Matthew Norman, Doug Mezzanotte, Debbie Pugh, Frank Grabovich, Don Brown, Greg and many more friends and supporters. Alfred graduated from Central High School in 1943 and was immediately drafted into the US Army. He served in England, France, Belgium, Germany and other European Theaters. Al was honorable discharged in 1945 and began working at the DSCS in Columbus. He retired in 1980 after 36 years of service. He belonged to Kentucky Rendezvous Inc. and Love Couples Whist Club. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 18, 2011, 11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon at Newcomer Funeral Home, NE Chapel, 3047 East Dublin Granville Road, Columbus, OH with the Funeral Service to follow at 12:00 Noon. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
