Anthony Luney, known by many names over the years, Tony, Tone, Tony Baloney, Dad, Moon Dawg, and Sophisticated Gent!
Born November 14, 1965 in Portsmouth, VIrginia to Marlene Delores (Barnes) and James Howard Luney. Tony accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age, he attended New Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, St. Paul Baptist Church and Victory Lighthouse Church into his adult years.
Tony attended Tierra Vista Elementary, Ocean View Middle and Channel Islands High School. Who can forget Jay, Albert and Tony known fondly as The Sophisticated Gents! Tony was popular, well known and very active in school activities.
As a child Tony played Little League Baseball for several years, he had an easy smile and an infectious laugh, Tony had a nickname for everyone, he loved music, was quick witted and always found a way to make people laugh.
Tony worked in numerous fields over the course of his life. During his early years he worked in concert promotion from colleges to large arenas for many different artists and traveled all over the nation. He also worked in construction, building and framing homes. Later in life Tony found great fulfillment working in business offices, delivery service and building maintenance.
Tony is preceded in death by his Mother Marlene Delores Luney, Father James Howard Luney, Brothers Dwayne Luney, Darryl Howard Luney and Kenneth Dean Luney and close family friend Carlton Rolle known fondly as Chickybaby.
He leaves to cherish his memory, six children, daughter, Tenisha Luney of North Carolina, son, Michael Edward Jr. of Kentucky, daughter Tonae Luney of Kentucky, Loving Life partner and Soulmate Daphne Duvall and their two sons, Armani Luney and Alarique Luney of Ohio. Two Brothers Aaron Darnell Luney of California and Ronnie Luney of Nebraska.
His Stepmother Margaret Lee Luney of California, Stepsisters Lucinda Richardson of Mississippi, Nora Hawkins and Marie Roberson of California and Stepbrothers Richard Moore and Robert Washington of California. A host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, classmates and co-workers. Tony was loved by all, to know him was to Love him, he will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday, May 27, 2022 at St. James Christian Center; 2713 Northland Plaza Drive, with a Funeral Service immediately afterward.
