Melander (nee Edwards)
Arlene Mae Melander, our beloved mother, grandma and nana passed away peacefully into her eternal life on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at St. Ann's.
She was born June 14, 1912 daughter of the late Marsh and Pearl (Bachellor) Edwards on a farm outside of Thomas, S.D.
Arlene graduated from Watertown, S.D. High School in 1930 and attended one year of college.
She then returned home to help her parents with their grocery store during the depression.
She met her husband Clifford at Swift & Co. where they both worked and were married on June 8, 1941. They lived 36 years in Watertown, S.D. where they enjoyed activities with friends at Grace Lutheran Church, and also with their bridge and camping companions. They also grew beautiful vegetable gardens and traveled with their children.
After Clifford's retirement in 1977 they moved to New Smyrna Beach, FL where they became active in church functions and took up ballroom dancing and later square dancing.
After her husband's death in 1996 she moved to N.C. to live with her son and family, and then to Westerville in 1998 to live with her daughter and family. She found new friendships at the Westerville Senior Center playing Rummikub, Bridge and lunching.
She is survived by her son, Wayne (Sue) Melander; daughter, Marilyn (Paul) Oines; sister, Mickey (Don) Banta; grandchildren, Davita, Sonja, Derek (Heather), Michelle, Stephanie (Dustin), Kristin (Stephen), Leith, Lance (Erin) and Noel; great grandchildren, Michael, Ashlynn, Madeline, Judah and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 8, 2013 from 1:00-3:00 PM at Northside Fellowship Church, 6841 Freeman Rd. Westerville, OH, with the funeral service beginning at 3:00 PM.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus.
Arlene will be missed greatly by her family and friends as she radiated goodness, kindness and joy!
