Augustine Peter Caramazza

Augustine "Augie" Peter Caramazza, 95, passed away on August 19,2023 in Columbus, Ohio. Augie was born on October 25, 1927. He was a fun-loving and outgoing individual who brought joy to everyone around him, building many friendships over the years.

Augie had a distinguished military career, serving in the Navy during World War II, the Army during the Korean War, and the Air Force during the Vietnam War, earning him several medals, including three purple hearts.

Following his military service, Augie was employed at the Franklin County Sherriff Department as a Deputy Sherriff and a Medic, accumulating over 26 years of service.

Augie had a zest for life and enjoyed traveling to Europe to see family, as well as cooking, playing chess, poker, or watching old westerns on TV. He created a recipe for Italian meats that became highly sought after by friends and family.

Augie served the Lord thru his Catholic Faith where he found solace and strength.

Augie is survived by his sister, Grace Picioccio, his son Joseph (Debbie) Caramazza, his daughters Rita (Dale) Griesinger, Rosanna (Kyle) Polk, his grandchildren, Fernanda, Felicia, Carissa, Austin, Alexandra, and Jordan, and his great-grandchildren Hailey, Koen, Vitalia, Kyren, and Aleesa. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Augie is preceded in death by his parents Giuseppe Caramazza and Matilda Messina, his wife Fernanda Caramazza, and his two brothers Charles and Salvatore Caramazza.

A private burial will take place on September 5th at the Field of Honor Military Cemetery, where Augie will be laid to rest with the respect and honor he deserves. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Augie's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project. Augie will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace.
