Avis Lea Mays, 60, Delaware, OH, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. Born to John and Irene (Fox) Mays in Wheeling, WV, on March 15, 1948, Avis is preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey Mays. Survivors include her parents; sisters, Carol (Mike) Jenkins, Brenda (Mike)Velten; brother, John Mays, Jr; sister-in-law, Pamela Mays; nephews, Derek Michael, Bryan Michael, Chad Mays, Ryan Mays, Bradley Mays; nieces, Jennifer (Jay) Ward, Lisa Gore, Laurie (Kyle) Brown, Nancy (Jamie) Drysdale, Andria (Ryan) Hansen; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Avis worked for ARC of Franklin County, ARC of Gulf Coast, MS, member of the Handi-Capable Square Dance Group of Gulfport, MS and a member of the Special Sunday School Class of the Presbyterian Church, Long Beach, MS. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2009, 2-5 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3047 E Dublin Granville Road, Columbus, OH with the Funeral Service on Monday, February 23, 2009, 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Rev. Karen L. DeJong will officiate.
