Barbara E. Hockingberry

June 4, 1939 — June 26, 2022

Barbara, Mom, Maw Maw and Miss Barbara, as she was known, was an amazing woman that loved everyone and was loved by everyone she ever met. Always a kind word and a cookie, she loved to bake and cookies were her favorite. So much so that one of her cats was named Cookie. Her cats were her comfort and often found on her lap under a cozy blanket on a cold night.
She dedicated her life to looking after children, whether it was her own, her Grandkids, the neighborhood kids, the Sunday School children she cared for at church, or the hundreds, if not thousands, she helped mold into young people for her 33 years at Creative Child Care. She truly touched so many lives through her work there.
After retirement, she spent her days reading books, baking and watching old movies. She especially loved musicals (Doris Day was her favorite) or westerns. You could find her in front of her TV in the fall, rooting for the Buckeyes on Saturdays and the Browns on Sundays, and she would be quite vocal.
She had a heart of gold and would share anything and everything with anyone in need. If she had 3 pennies and you were in need, she would give you two.
She will be forever and always in our hearts and missed beyond belief. Rest easy Mama, we'll take it from here.
Barbara was born in Columbus, Ohio on June 4, 1939 to the late Emery Stewart Kaiser and Virginia Ellen (Storandt) Kaiser. She is preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Ashley McRae. She is survived by her brother, Frederick Charles (Beverly) Kaiser; children, Jeri Ellen (Sam) Gookin; Troy Charles (Michelle) Hockingberry; and Stewart Blair Hockingberry; grandchildren, Heather Riley; Troy Hockingberry Jr.; Aaron Hockingberry; Kristi Gookin; Betsy (Alex) Rogers; Tory Hockingberry; Skylar Roberts; Corin Hockingberry; Christa Hockingberry; and 15 great grandchildren.
