In Loving Memory of Barbara Luella Cook Marshall
1932-2024
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever." - Psalm 23:6
Barbara (Barb) Luella Cook Marshall, age 91, left this Earth on March 16, 2024 to live eternally with her Lord and Savior, as well as her beloved husband, children and loved ones.
Barb was born on December 31, 1932 in Pickaway County to the late Roland and Mabel (Brown) Cook. She grew up laughing and playing music with her siblings, Carol Ramsey, Lloyd E. (Nancy) Cook, Leslie (Anne) Cook, Patsy (Ron) Williams, Fay (Clarence) Marshall, all of whom, except Nancy, pre-deceased Barbara. Barbara married the love of her life, Gene Tunney Marshall, who preceded her in death in 2016 after 64 years of a beautiful marriage. Together, Barb and Gene had three children: their gregarious son Jeffrey Gene, who preceded his parents in death in 2015, their sweet baby angel daughter Janifer Fay, who was called home too soon in 1963, and their surviving daughter, Jodie Lou, who was as loving, caring and devoted to both Barb and Gene as anyone could imagine.
Barbara's greatest joy was to be surrounded by her loved ones, who will miss her bright blue eyes, her easy smile and her fitting advice, always offered in a witty, amusing way. In addition to her daughter Jodie, she is survived by those who call her mom, grandma, great-grandma, aunt and friend: daughter in law, Lura Marshall of Waverly, Ohio; grandchildren Jason (Michelle) Rowland of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jeffrey (Amanda) Marshall of Ashville, Ohio, and Katherine (Ryan) Mink of Grove City, Ohio; sisters in law, Betty Sipe of Troy, Ohio and Nancy Cook of Circleville, Ohio; and brother in law Tom Ramsey. Her adoring great grandchildren will miss her generous heart and her loving hugs. They are Reid, Janey and Stella Rowland, Misha, Aubrey and Nora Marshall and Cameron and Adeline Mink. Barbara always made sure that her many nieces, nephews, dear friends and loved ones knew they were loved beyond measure. She told her family that her final prayer was that God would keep them all in the palm of His hand.
Barb's heart was full of compassion and she especially found solace in listening to, and playing, beautiful music. She was a skilled pianist and organist who loved playing music with her family surrounding her after dinners, holidays and get togethers. Above all, Barbara will be remembered for her love for all. Whether at their home or camping at the lake, Barb's gentle spirit made each person feel like a special member of the family. She welcomed everyone with loving arms and an invitation to join in great food and conversation, which always included her keen sense of humor and plenty of laughter.
Barbara graduated from Walnut High School in 1950 and went on to become the secretary for Rose Products of Columbus, Ohio, where she happily worked for 31 years. Barbara was a woman of strong faith and attended United Methodist Church of Grove City and Lakeside Presbyterian in West Palm Beach, Florida. Barbara left this earthy life confident in where she would spend eternity.
Barbara's greatest legacy will be her compassionate care and love for others. She would encourage us to be kind, listen to the music of life and laugh together . . . a lot. She requested that donations be made in her memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
Services to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 10:00am to 12:00pm A funeral service will follow at the Funeral Home at 12:00pm. A graveside burial will immediately follow at Harrison Township Cemetery in Ashville, Ohio.
Good night my Angel, time to close your eyes.
