Barbara Jean Sykes passed away peacefully in her home on the 13th of June, 2023 surrounded by her family.
Barb was born on June 19th, 1937. A lifelong resident of Columbus Ohio, Barb was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes - something apparent to any visitor to her home, as it was decorated to support her team.
In addition to the Buckeyes, Barb loved the Cincinnati Bengals and NASCAR Racing. She enjoyed rooting for her favorites at home surrounded by her various collections of porcelain dolls and ceramic animals.
When she was younger, a favorite summer activity of Barb and her children was attending their annual family reunions with all their extended family.
Through the years, Barb spent a lot of time in bowling alleys and campgrounds. Her grandchildren have fond memories of drinking Shirley Temples with her and dancing to Rocky Top in the bowling alley bar.
Barb retired from Huntington National Bank. She is survived by her husband, Lester Sykes. They were married nearly 50 years. They enjoyed spending time with their friends at the Eagles club and Autumn Lakes.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents William and Alma Rodgers, her sisters Grace Corielle and Betty Ciardelli, and her brother Bobby Rodgers.
Barb is also survived by her children- Barb (Estle) Herman, Robert/Kokie (Allison) Whitlock, and Jimi Palmer; Grandchildren- Angel, Kristy, Summer, Samantha, Ricky (Amanda), Ronnie and Robert and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Central Ohio as well as the wonderful neighbors who supported Les and Jimi in taking care of Barb in the final weeks.
There will be a Graveside service at Eastlawn Cemetery at 10am on Saturday June 24th, 2023.
