Benny Ray Pelphrey, 86, of Columbus, passed away December 7, 2023. He born Paintsville, Kentucky on April 8, 1937 to the late Frank and Murzie (VanHoose) Pelphrey. He married Carol Sue Jennings on October 2, 2005, and she survives.
Other survivors include children, Jeffrey S. (Mary) Pelphrey, Benny E. (Denise) Pelphrey, and Tammy Marie (Dale) Williams; step-children, Ronald (Diana) Helmick, Lisa (Steve) Barcus, and Keith Gray; he had 15 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. Survived by brother Bill Pelphrey and sister Maxine Blair and best friend Jim Immel; and many other family members and friends.
Benny was a man of many skills, with the ability to succeed with whatever he did. He was not known for just one thing but for many, including, owner of Duncan & High restaurant and laundromat ; he raced late models stock cars and ARCA Pro4. When he wasn't working, he loved to spend time with the family. Most of all Ben had immense pride and honor in service his Lord, Jesus Christ.
A Memorial Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm, Thursday, December 14, 2023 at the Newcomer Funeral, Northeast Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus 43231. Visitation to be held from 10am to 11am, Saturday, December, 16, in Paintsville, Kentucky at Jones-Preston Funeral Home. Services being held at 11am at Jones-Preston Funeral Home, 807 S. Mayo Trail, Paintsville, KY 41240. Burial to follow in Johnson County Memorial Cemetery. The Newcomer family and Jones-Preston families are honored to serve the Pelphrey family.
