Bernadette C. Swanson

Swanson, Bernadette Cathleen, 62, of New Albany, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on January 29, 2025. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 15, 1962 to the late Joseph Dunne and Ruth Kiesel Dunne. She married Daniel J. Swanson on February 23, 1985, and he survives.

Along with her loving husband, Bernadette is survived by daughter, Kathleen Fitzgerald (Kevin), son, Daniel P. Swanson (Emily); siblings Timmy (Mi Ae), Jamie (Kathy), and Joseph Dunne (Jennifer); many beloved nieces and nephews, family members, and friends.

Bernadette graduated from Buffalo Grove High School in Buffalo Grove, Illinois in 1980. She went on to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Elmhurst College in 1984. Bernadette served as a dedicated and caring NICU Nurse for Rainbow Babies and Children for over 25 years. 

When she wasn’t raising or spending time with her children, Bernadette excelled at running, working out and playing pickleball. Her greatest joy was being with and doting on her grandchildren, Marguerite, Maeve, Danny, and Graham.

Bernadette was deeply loved by all, including her family, her friends, and virtually anyone who had the privilege to know her. Her kindness, love, and caring for others was legendary.

A service to honor her life will be held privately at the convenience of the family. The Newcomer Family is honored to serve the Swanson family.
