Betty Louise Bergin, a vibrant spirit and devoted family matriarch, passed away on February 15, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on June 2, 1935, Betty's journey through life was marked not only by her love of family but also by her passion for exploration and healing.
Betty was a true world traveler, calling seven different states home throughout her richly lived life. This wanderlust was paired with a deep-seated spirituality, as she dedicated many years to the study and practice of alternative healing methods. Her career as a Psychogenic Researcher was a testament to her inquisitive nature and unwavering quest for understanding the mysteries of the mind and spirit.
In 2005, Betty returned to Ohio, the state where most of her beloved family resided. It was in this familiar territory that she found joy in the simple pleasures of life, often spending weekends at "Mom's Café," sharing meals and laughter while engaging in games with her daughters. These moments spoke to the heart of who she was: a nurturing figure who cherished familial bonds and sought to create lasting memories. Betty was very wise, and one of her quotes of wisdom was, "There are no Victims, only Volunteers."
Betty is survived by her three daughters: Sharon Pappas of Grove City, OH, Carol (Dan) Henthorn of Kansas City, MO, and Renae (Robert) Schreck of Columbus, OH. The legacy of love she leaves behind continues through her six grandchildren—Shane (Kim) Pappas, Tara Stewart, Bobby (Melissa) Schreck, Clint (Teresa) Schreck, Stephanie Aponte, and Benjamin Henthorn—and her thirteen great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.
Betty's family tree also includes her three siblings: Lucy Marcum, Louis Sherrick, and Dwight Sherrick. They shared a bond that transcended the years, filled with memories that will be cherished forever. Along with them, she is remembered fondly by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by her warmth and kindness.
Before her passing, Betty was preceded in death by her parents, John and Stella Sherrick, and her siblings: Wanda Helwagen, Charles Sherrick, Maxine, and Delbert Sherrick. Their absence left a void in her heart, but she carried their love with her throughout her life.
In honor of Betty's memory, a visitation and celebration of life will be held on February 21, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest in Grove City, OH. Visitors are welcome at 2:00 PM, leading into a celebration of her remarkable life starting at 4:00 PM.
Betty Louise Bergin lived with purpose, passion, and an open heart. She held the wisdom of the ages, the laughter of youth, and an unwavering belief in the goodness of life. Her legacy will forever resonate within the hearts she touched, reminding all of us of the boundless love she so generously gave.
