Betty Joan McDonald

Betty Joan McDonald, age 81, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on Nov. 13, 2024, at her home.

She was the daughter of William Charles and Effie Pearl (Lyon) Sipe and was born in Columbus, Ohio, on September 7, 1943.

She is survived by her husband, James Raymond McDonald, and children Craig (Deborah) McDonald; Quin (Richard) Wells; Shani (Doug) Bradshaw, as well as granddaughters Madeleine and Yeats McDonald, Abby (Marcus) Rixon, Annie (Jake) Johnson, Megan Sherrick, and grandsons Daniel (Jaci) Wells, Ryan (Kaitlynn) Wells, and Zachary (Shannon) Farley. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.

The greatest joy in Betty’s life was her family and her active role in raising not just her children, but also her eight grandchildren. Christmas was her favorite holiday, fall her favorite season, and she loved the rain.

In addition to raising a family, Betty was an active member of the Grove City Republican Club, and for several decades recruited candidates and coordinated numerous successful campaigns for local, regional and state offices.

The family held a private ceremony on November 16 at Grove City Cemetery where she was interned.

Her family has asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Betty’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alzfdn.org.
