Bob G Conner, age 84, of Columbus, died Tuesday, October 30, 2012. He was born February 11, 1928 in Newark, Ohio to the late Lorain and Ethel Florence (Moran) Conner.
Bob joined the US Army at 16 and served with the 88th Infantry and the 82nd Airborne throughout the European Theater of Operations. He also served during the Korean Conflict serving aboard the USS Missouri, the USS Mercer, the USS Tarawa and the USS Coral Sea.
Bob also served 17 years with the Ohio National Guard as Acting 1st SGT. of 166th Medical Co , Fort Hayes and with the Sullivant Ave Armory.
Bob was the Squadron Commander of the Civil Air Patrol SQD 802 Air Search and Rescue for 7 years.
Bob served as Military Chaplin at the Lockbourne Air Force Base, the Perry Township Police Dept. and the Indiana Army National Guard at Camp Atterbury.
Bob served as a Franklin County Deputy Sheriff and Special Deputy Sheriff for over 30 years and then moved to the Court of Domestic Relations were he retired in 1982.
Bob is preceded in death by his brother Lawrence, two infant siblings and brothers-in-law Mib Fraley and Ron Hooks. He is survived by his wife, of 44 years, Karen L Hogg; Children, Chrystal Dillon; Rob (Rhonda) Conner; Scott (Trina) Conner; Terri (Terry Haughn). 13 Grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother Tom (Linda) Conner, his sister Rose Fraley; Brother-in-law Jim (Lesley) Hogg and Sister-in-Law Barbara (Hogg) Hooks.
Bob was a member of Calvary Apostolic Church for over 45 years.
Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, Friday, November 2, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home and Crematory, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. James Stark at 10:00am, Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Galloway, OH.
