Carl Edward Hunnell, born September 22nd, 1928, went home to be with the Lord on December 13, 2021. He was a brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved his family, his church and was a proud Navy veteran. He was an avid fan of the Buckeyes, never too busy for his grandchildren, and always had a story to share. One of his favorite memories was his Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2017.
He was born in Pomeroy Ohio, where he met his wife of 64 years, Maxine, who went to be with the Lord in August of 2020. He joined the US Navy in 1947 and served until 1952, during the Korean conflict. He and Maxine moved to Columbus, where he worked for General Motors for 30 years, before retiring in 1988. He attended Marshall and Findlay colleges, where he was a Little All-American football player. He and Maxine traveled extensively throughout the US, were very active in their church, and had a large group of friends.
Carl is preceded in death by brother Johnny, his sister Shirley and is survived by brother Donald (Frankie) Hunnel. He is survived by his three children, LuAnne (Tom) Wall, Mark Hunnell, and Matt (Anne) Hunnell, as well as grandchildren Mindy (Chris) Bisesi, Jessica (Troy) Awsumb, Alex (Chrissy) Hunnell, Mark (Tabitha) Gail, Amanda (P.J.) Ryan, eight great-grandchildren (Sophia, Liam, Bruce, Luke, Leo, Levi, Linus, and Ben), extended family, and many friends. He was a faithful member of the Grove City Church of the Nazarene.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 23rd, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Grove City Church of the Nazarene, 4770 Hoover Road, Grove City, Ohio 43123, with a memorial service to follow immediately after.
A small graveside service will be held at Mound Cemetery, Chester Township, Meigs County on Thursday, December 23rd, at 2:00 P.M. for the immediate family.
