Carl E. Jones

December 20, 1936 — June 21, 2020

Carl Edward Jones, age 83, of Groveport, Ohio (previously of Orient). He stepped into the arms of his Savior on June 21, 2020. He was born in Ironton, Ohio on December 20, 1936 to the late John and Goldie Jones and was later raised by his late brother-in-law and sister, Norman and Lottie Lucas in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Central High School in the spring of 1956 and then proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 - 1959, achieving the rank of Corporal. He was employed as a Lieutenant for the State of Ohio Department of Corrections for 23 years, working at the Ohio Penitentiary in Columbus and later at the Orient Correctional Institute. The job he loved the most and considered his most important, was that of a born-again Christian and minister. He worked most of his life to make Heaven his home, and to win souls to Christ. He wished more than anything for his family and friends to join him in Heaven. Even through all his sickness over the last year of his life he could be heard witnessing to whomever crossed his path.

Survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sue. Also survived by his children: Carla (Ernest) Moore of Lancaster, Debbie (Rodger) Collom of Delaware, Mark (Denise) Jones of Orient, and Misty (Brad) Laxton of Commercial Point; brother, Otis (Gina) Jones of Columbus; sister, Virginia (Eric) Travelstead of Loris, South Carolina; special nephew, Norman (Nancy) Lucas Jr. of Wescosville, PA; special brothers in Christ - Louis McCoy, Paul Rings, Virgil Fields, Lawrence Hayes, Pastor John Meade (Southwest Freewill Baptist Church) and Pastor William Boyd Bingham III (Binghamtown Baptist Church of Middlesboro, KY). Also survived by his grandchildren, which he loved very much: Jeff (Amanda) Boester of Delaware, Ameera (Seth) French of Delaware, Miriam Aburmaieleh of New Albany, Ali Aburmaieleh of St. Petersburg, FL, Savannah, Sarah and Morgan Laxton of Commercial Point; host of nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his grandson, Joseph Ryan Wilder; parents, John and Goldie Jones; and numerous brothers and sisters; and special niece, Sandra Rogers.
