Carol Lorraine Artis Staggs Carey

Carol Lorraine Artis Staggs Carey passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. The daughter of Gladys (Williams) and Clyde Artis, she was born on August 16, 1932. Carol graduated as class valedictorian from Scioto Township High School. She retired after 30 years from the Borden Corporation as the executive secretary to the vice president in 1996. Carol loved God, her family, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Cincinnati Reds, though not necessarily in that order. She was a caretaker of all of the members of her family. Carol was a hard-working member of all of the organizations and communities she joined.

She was a force to be reckoned with. She frequently told her granddaughters to "simmer down".

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Nonie Barnhart, Bona Colegrove, Lois Carson, and Fannie (James) Elliott; brothers Russ (Violet), Clyde Jr. (Wanda), John (Kate, Lois), and Kenny (Ann); and many cousins.

Carol is survived by her son, Ross L. Staggs Jr.; granddaughters Corinne (Dan) Tagliarina, Emily (Joe) McClung, and Rachel Staggs; daughter-in-law Beth Staggs; great grandsons Alex Tagliarina, and A.O. and Thomas McClung; sister Patty (Luke) Mayberry; brothers Ralph (Bernice), James (Ruth), and Bill; dearest friend Helen Patterson, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Ashford of Grove City, Ohio Health Hospice, and Capital City Hospice.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Westgate Baptist Church, 4234 Clime Road North, Columbus, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mort Adams presiding. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Westgate Baptist Church.
