Carol Jean Weisdock, 82, of Columbus Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2023. She was born July 31, 1940, the only child of Helen Leitsch Smith and Willian C. Smith in Pittsburgh, PA.
Carol, the most loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother is survived by her husband Jerry; daughters Sherry (Peter) Wilson, Jean ("Butch") Bernstein and grandsons Zachary, Aaron, and Joel Bernstein.
Carol's mother Helen died when Carol was five years old. Her Aunt Ann and Uncle Jack offered their home and raised Carol as one of their own. Carol's father's work required him to travel extensively, as World War II was coming to an end. A few years later her father married Dorothy Louise McCay. Dorothy adopted Carol and along with Bill, raised her.
Carol and Jerry dated in high school. After graduation Carol attended a business school then went to work for Yellow Cab in Pittsburgh. Jerry received his draft notice from the Army. We were married and after Jerry's discharge from active duty we decided to remain in Pittsburgh. Daughters Sheryl and Jean were born there, and their lives were changed.
Carol had a beautiful singing voice. She began singing at 14 in her church choir. She sang in her high school chorus and was chosen to sing in the 1958 Pennsylvania State Choral Presentation in Harrisburg conducted by the famous Fred Waring. She also was a member of the Jersey Sound, a New Jersey women's chorus singing in the Barber Shop style for 25 years. They sang, had competitions, and raised money for charities.
Carol was a woman of great faith. She was a Stephens' Minister, a religious way of caring for the aging. A Sunday School teacher several times, President of her Congregation twice, multiple times a member of Church Council. She even rode a tractor to cut grass when no one else volunteered. How do you live with someone like that? You stay out of her way; support her; you watch; you learn; you love.
