Charlene "Char" Rose Legg, 75, of Gahanna, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20th surrounded by her loving family at Mount Carmel East Hospital. Char was born March 19, 1949 in Westerville, Ohio to her parents Howard Crace and Pauline (Clapham) Crace. She graduated from Westerville High School in 1967 where she was a member of the Marching Band. She went on to graduate from Nationwide Beauty Academy. 15 years later, Char went to work at DFAS where she traveled all over the world and taught classes to members of the US military. Over her 29 years working for the Federal Government, Char earned several Challenge Coins, many which were presented to her by United States Generals. She was so proud of those. Char retired from DFAS in December 2012, with 29+ years. Across her 44 year career, Char's favorite part of her work was making connections with others. From the conversations with clients in her salon chair to the students in her classroom, Char strived to put a smile on the face of everyone she met.
Char will be deeply missed by her husband of 41 years, Paul "Butch" Legg, their dog, Rascal; her children, Tracy (John) Vaccani, and Marc (Erica) Parker; her grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Dominique Vaccani, Gabrielle Vaccani and Brendan Winkelman; her siblings, Terry (Linda) Crace and sister Renee (Kevan) Price; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Char is preceded in death by her parents Howard Crace and Pauline "Polly" Crace and her brother Randy Crace.
Char's greatest joy in life was her family. If you spent any time around her, you would surely get an earful of how proud she was of her children and grandchildren. Christmas was her favorite time of year; she loved giving to everyone, family or not. Char had a way of making strangers feel like friends, and friends feel like family. She was such a giving person, always putting others before herself. Char enjoyed reading, shopping, working in her flower gardens, canning fresh vegetables from her cousin's garden and sitting on their back deck in the evenings to watch the birds. During football season, Char loved to cheer on The Ohio State Buckeyes. She loved to travel, and looked forward to her annual two week trip to St Maarten every year. The friends she made on the island were like family to her. Char was involved at the Gahanna Senior Center, and enjoyed all the people she met and the fun memories they shared. You could find Char most Tuesday evenings playing Bingo at Gatsby's; she didn't always win but she always had fun! She loved going to Gatsby's with her husband on Friday evenings to listen to live music with the many friends she's made over the years. Although Char has left this earth, she will never leave our hearts. The memories we have of her will last forever.
A celebration of Char's life will be held at Newcomer Funeral home (3047 E. Dublin-Granville Road) on March 30, 2024. Friends and Family may call from 10am until the time of service at 12pm.
