Charles Bussard

BUSSARD
Charles Roy Bussard, 80, passed away peacefully in his home in early August 2009. He was born December 30, 1928 and had been a life-long resident of Columbus, OH. Roy graduated in 1947 from Columbus North High School, and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps shortly thereafter. He served with distinction in the Korean Conflict where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart. For the next four decades, he was a conscientious and reliable employee of Columbus Coated Fabrics/Borden Chemical Co. until his retirement in January of 1991. Roy married Barbara Flanagan Pinckard in Columbus on April 11, 1970. Together, they enjoyed traveling, Sunday drives in the countryside, outings with their grandchildren and the visits of family members. Barbara preceded Roy in death on March 15, 2005. Also preceding him in death, were his sister and two brothers. Roy will be remembered by his many apartment neighbors for his acts of kindness and thoughtfulness. His extended family will remember him as a loving and devoted stepfather to Barbara's three children from a previous marriage; Peggy (Pinckard) Ruff of Stevensville, MT; J. Dennis Pinckard of Clemmons, NC; and R. Michael Pinckard of Sarasota, FL. Among his fondest memories were the times he spent with his grandchildren; Elizabeth A. (Pinckard) Dinkin, Tracy R. Pinckard and Sean K. Pinckard. In the last four years, Roy enjoyed the ritual of early morning walks around his neighborhood; the antics and companionship of his cherished cat, Chester; the friendship and counsel of close friend, Doug Nault; his walks for charitable causes with his good companions from the Ohio Health Physical Rehabilitation Center-Upper Arlington. Roy was an outstanding volunteer at the Rehab. Ctr. where he was a valued worker and friend of both staff and patients. His duties there were important to him and he derived great pleasure from being a dedicated and responsible member of the team. The experience provided him a sense of pride and purpose. Roy will be missed by those who knew him well and loved by them always. Visitation will be Thursday, August 20, 2009 from 5-7 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd., Columbus, OH. Memorial Service will be at 7 PM at the funeral home.
