Charles Keeling, 92, of Columbus, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Kobacker House.
He was born December 9, 1919 in Shelbyville, IN, son of the late Sherman and Rachel Bennett Keeling.
Charles enlisted in the Army in 1940. He served as a Platoon Sergeant for an infantry division recon troop. Charles attended Infantry OCS at Ft. Benning, GA in 1942. He served as a platoon leader for an Infantry heavy weapons company and rifle company in the South Pacific. Charles was discharged in 1946 as an Infantry Captain.
He was also a Deacon and on the building committee for Maize Road Baptist Church. Charles was a member of the American Legion and a life member of the V.F.W. Post # 3424.
He retired from Clark Grave Vault Company in 1983 with over 36 years of service.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary McFarland Keeling; daughter, Carolyn (Tom) Davis; sons, John (Karen) Keeling and Rick Keeling; sister, Evelyn Day; grandchildren, Loraine Ann (Brian) Swank, Jason and Jared Keeling; great grandchildren, Danielle and Aric Merola.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 1:00-5:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus. Funeral service will be Sunday, April 15, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
