OVERLY

Charles Robert "Bob" "Eightball" Overly, 87, of Chillicothe, passed away, Wednesday morning, May 6, 2009 at Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. He was born January 9, 1922 in Ross County, son of Charles E. and Beryl Watts-Overly. While in the Navy he married the late Connie M. Forney of Washington, D.C., who died May 14, 2008. Bob graduated from Howe Military Academy in Indiana in 1940. He joined the Navy December 6, 1941, the day before Pearl Harbor, and after the war, he and Connie returned to Chillicothe where they resided their remaining years. Many of you may remember him officiating baseball, basketball, and football games around Ohio. He officiated for 31 years and retired in 1982 when he said, "his legs finally gave out". One of his proudest moments was being inducted into the Ohio High School Athletic Association Officials Hall of Fame on June 9, 1990. Bob is survived by his brother, Donald Overly of Toledo, Oregon; a son, William J. Overly of Chillicothe; and a daughter, Andrea Krick of Grove City, Ohio; his grandchildren, B.J. Overly and Nikki Overly of Missouri, Jamee (Kevin) Kruse of Cincinnati; and step grandchildren, Betsy (David) Skrobot of Zanesville, and Kraig (Becky) Krick of Ashville; eight great grandchildren, Molly, MacKenzie, and Mickey Kruse, Nick, Jack and Gabe Skrobot, and Kohl and Klay Krick. The family would like to express their appreciation and heartfelt thanks to Dr. Berno, the medical staff of 2A and ICU at Adena, who attended Bob, and a special thank you to Lana Detty, his caregiver. There will be no calling hours or service as Bob will be cremated at his request. So long to his many friends; thanks for the memories, what a wonderful life. Arrangements have been entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel, Grove City. To leave a special message for the family visit www.NewcomerColumbus.com
