Charles Rolland "Rackie" Campbell,91, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, went to be with his Heavenly Father on June 5, 2012 comforted by his family at home in Columbus, OH.

He was born to the late Olive Doran Campbell & Robert Henry Campbell, August 14, 1920 in New Albany, Ohio. He graduated from Plain Township High School in 1939, in New Albany, Ohio. After graduation, he was employed by Curtiss Wright before enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps. Charlie proudly served in World War II in the Pacific Theater with the 475th Fighter Group.

When he returned to Columbus, he began working at Columbus Showcase. After 38 years, he retired in 1982. He was a member of Carpenters Local 2077.

Loving husband of Martha Louise (Thomas) for nearly 70 years; proud father of Cheryl (Dr. Paul) Schanher, Mark (Kathy) Campbell, David (Margie) Campbell, and Dan (Beth) Campbell; devoted "Papa" to his 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Charlie is survived by his brother James Alden (Carrie) Campbell of Yulee, Florida, and sister Jean Lenore (Campbell) Diehl of Aurora, Illinois. He also has a half-sister and two half-brothers and numerous other family members and friends.Preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law Jim Diehl, his Uncle Maynard (Happy) Doran and Aunt Ruth (Grant) Hilbert. Family and friends will dearly miss and always remember a very talented, brave, gentle and kind man who loved them with all his heart.

On June 16th at 2pm, there will be a celebration of his life held at Westgate United Methodist Church, 61 South Powell Avenue, Columbus, OH 43204, where he and Louise have been members for 63 years.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the members of the church and their neighbors for all the love and support during this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Mount Carmel Hospice, Columbus Honor Flight, or Westgate United Methodist Church. Newcomer Funeral Home, NE Chapel, 3047 East Dublin Granville Road, Columbus, OH is honored to serve the Campbell Family.
