Charles Lewis West, age 82, died at Columbus Alzheimer's Care Center on Monday, September 27, 2004. Preceded in death by parents John and Hannah West, sisters Eleaner West, Myrtie (Herbert) Kramer, brothers Lester (Nancy), Carl (Kathleen) and David (Virginia), and son-in-law Bradley Hurney. Survived by wife Garnet West, children Gregory (Marilyn), Laura (Mitchell) Adams, Myra (Jeffrey) Brown, and Sara West (L.T. Nichols); grandchildren Kevin and Jennifer West; Haven, Caitlin and Nathaniel Adams; Alexandra, Abigail and Mackenzie Brown; Mariah and Lydia Hurney West; four step-grandchildren Zachary Brown, Heather Hopper, John and Mark Nichols; many nieces and nephews; brother Dow (Charlotte) West and sister Anna Mae (Charles) Crabb. He grew up in Chillicothe and was a member of the East-Enders Club. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps as a surgical technician at the 176 General Field Hospital in Normandy, France. After the war, he was educated at Ohio State University as a geologist. In 1951 he and his brother David formed West Brothers Construction Company and developed single- and multi-family, and commercial properties in Columbus, Worthington and Upper Arlington for nearly 50 years. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and VFW Post 2398 of Worthington. Friends may call Wednesday 5-7 p.m. at BETHEL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 1220 Bethel Road. Funeral at 1 p.m. on Thursday at BETHEL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, officiated by Pastor Tom Keene. Military service by the VFW. Burial at Glen Rest Memorial Cemetery.
