BISHOP
Charles Radford Bishop, 81, passed away at home April 18, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born August 29, 1928 in Clinchport, VA to parents, Thomas Jackson and Causby Ellen (Gillman) Bishop. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his six brothers and four sisters. Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Loranna (Henson) Bishop; daughter, Charlene (Dave) Harless of Phoenix, AZ; son, Radford Smith(Patty Phlegar) of Marengo, OH; daughter, Daphne Ann (Tom) Gilkey of Jackson, OH; grandchildren, David and Paul Harless, Joy Gonsoulin, Amanda and Radford James Bishop, Jessie, Roxy and Tommi Gilkey; great grandchildren, Seluviel Clarke, Willow and Logan Harless, Samantha and Jada Gonsoulin, and Devon and Kayden Farney; as well as many nieces (with special thanks to Anita), nephews and beloved friends. Prior to moving to Ohio in 1954, Charlie owned an apple orchard in VA and worked construction. He worked for both Brookside Country Club and York Temple golf courses for many years as a greens keeper prior to his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, the Buckeyes and Nascar, and spending time with his wife, family and friends. He was taken care of at home in his final days by his family, including his wife, Ann; son, Rad; grandson, James, and by "The Gang" – Spanky (Daphne), Alfalfa (Char) and Buckwheat (Anita). A special thanks to Dr. Nse Ntukidem and staff at Columbus Oncology, especially his nurse, Rose and to HomeReach Hospice for helping him remain at home. Visitation Thursday, April 22, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd., Columbus, OH. Funeral Service Friday, April 23, 2010 at 1PM at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Fancher Cemetery near 11239 Fancher Rd., Westerville, OH.
