Clara Helen King

October 18, 1931 — June 1, 2022

Clara Helen King passed away peacefully in her home on June 1st, 2022 with her family members by her side. She left this earth and went to be eternally with her Lord Jesus Christ and to receive all the infinite blessings and comforts promised by God our Father.

Clara was born on October 19, 1931, to Clark and Tersie May in Newburg, West Virginia. She grew up during the depression, a country girl, a coal miner's daughter, and the youngest of 12 siblings. As a teenager, while attending the Glendale church of Christ (now called Veto), in southern Ohio, she met a young man named Brady who witnessed her baptism in the Little Hocking River. Brady soon became the love of her life and on December 16, 1950, they married in a private ceremony and immediately moved to Columbus, Ohio. Without much income, they rented a small room in another couple's home and enjoyed indoor plumbing for the first time in their lives. Clara secured a job at the Ohio State University, and they eventually were able to have enough saved to buy their own home in Columbus and later build one in Westerville where they lived for 55 years. They devoted themselves to raising two beautiful girls and to serving the Spring Road Church of Christ.

Clara is known for her strong faith, serving spirit, loyal friendship, witty personality, and generous hospitality. She was an avid gardener, meticulous housekeeper, a devoted wife, and a loving mother and grandmother. Clara loved to cook, and she was well known for her pies and beautifully decorated cakes. She has touched thousands of lives as a beautiful example of a strong loving woman of faith.

She is proceeded in death by her parents and all her siblings: Cecil Smith, Herbert Smith, Gerald Smith, Roy May, Aldo May, Nobel May, Robert May, Bruce May, and Ruth McCann as well as two infant sisters. Clara is survived by her husband of 71 years, Brady King, her daughter Susan Walker and husband Archie, her daughter Carol Kuenning and husband Robert, her sister-in-law, Helen May, brother-in-law, Ernie King, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

All praise and thanks to God for the lovely life of this beautiful woman and the great legacy that she has left.
