(DAVIS) MELVIN
Cleo Elizabeth (Davis) Melvin, 86, Grove City, OH, passed on April 21, 2013. The eldest daughter of the late Lloyd and Bessie Davis, Cleo was born in Circleville, OH. She is survived by husband, Ronald in a blessed marriage of over 51 years. Also survived by her son, Butch (Sharon) Lutz, daughter Beverly Crawford and their daughter, Cheri Melvin, sisters Rosemary Crabtree, Peggy (Merle) Swank, granddaughters Cassie (Jimmy) Arledge, Tammy (Paul) Griffin, Anna (Derek) Van Metre, their children, as well as several great grandchildren. Grandson/Son Rolando "Dito" Melvin preceded her in death.
Cleo was formerly employed by J.C. Penney and Sears, but retired to devote her life to family. She and Ron assumed full-time care of Dito early in his life, due to his very complex medical issues. These circumstances necessitated extensive efforts and alterations to their life style, in order to care for his health and also to nurture his development as an exceptional vocalist. However, the rewards of helping him succeed were both a pleasure and an honor for them.
Together, they enjoyed hosting and attending dinner parties during their nearly 30 years in the Washington DC area, traveling throughout the United States, the Virgin Islands, and several trips to Europe; attending theaters; and a host of church and social activities. In addition, for years she was a devoted teacher of pre-school children at the churches they attended in Ohio, MD and VA. She was well known for her homemaking skills and her sparkling sense of fashion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Nationwide Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 16810, Columbus, OH 43216-6810 or charity of your choice which provides benefits to children's programs.
