Clyde "DEAN" Pool, 81, of the Northwest side, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 6, 2012, at his residence.
He was born January 22, 1931, in Lancaster, Ohio, son of the late Clyde F. and Bertha Kennedy Pool.
In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Martin, and brother-in-law, Stew Sanders.
He was a Sgt. in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict where he was a Senior Cook for 2,400 soldiers daily. Dean also was involved in Air Survival; teaching pilots how to survive in the field. He attended Bethany Nazarene College in Oklahoma, as well as Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio. He retired from Westinghouse after 30 years in management of the Metallurgical and Quality Control Departments. After 19 years his second retirement was from Columbus Fair Auto Auction where he was Director of the Reconditioning Center. He was an avid car enthusiast, and enjoyed fast and flashy cars. His Masonic affiliations are Triangle Blue Lodge #0748, Scottish Rite and Aladdin Shrine. Dean had a tremendous talent for woodworking and creating cardboard projects for VBS, where he was known as the "Cardboard King" at Northwest United Methodist Church for many years.
Dean is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dianne Sanders Pool; siblings, Rev. H. Gene (Mary) Pool of Elkhart, Indiana, Philip (Mollie) Pool of Apple Valley, Ohio, Sharon (Ted) Caton of Westerville, Ohio, and Jim (Cheryl) Pool of Ft. Pierce, Florida; sisters-in-law Carole Sanders and Diane Pool, both of northern Illinois; beloved poodles, Bridget and Gigi; many close nieces and nephews, plus a great host of friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 19, 2012, from 2:00-4:00 PM at Northwest United Methodist Church, 5200 Riverside Drive, Columbus, OH 43220.
A Memorial Service celebrating Dean's life will be held Sunday, May 20, 2012, 1:30 PM at the church, with Pastor Tom Slack officiating, along with Pastor John Hickman. Immediately following the service his ashes will be spread in the Memorial Garden at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church.
