Cynthia Lynn Ferrara

November 22, 1958 — November 30, 2024

Cynthia (Cindy) Lynn Ferrara, cherished wife, sister, Nonna, aunt and friend, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024 after a courageous fight with ALS. Born on November 22, 1958 in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, she brought joy and love to all she touched. Defined by a limitless passion for family, grandchildren, tennis, cats, cooking, and shopping – she impacted so many.

Cindy was a 1976 graduate of Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School and a 1980 graduate of Miami University of Ohio, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority - “Love in the bonds”.

Upon graduation, she worked in education and migrated to IT for 25 years, culminating in a senior position with AEP.

Along with her successful professional career, Cindy was immersed in a love of tennis, and was active as a teammate, team captain, membership chair, and executive director with leadership positions in the local tennis community. She was honored with prestigious awards from the United States Tennis Association and Greater Columbus Tennis Association and fulfilled her bucket list by attending all four grand slam tennis events.

As an elite athlete, Cindy also trained and participated in numerous running events, surpassing many in her age bracket. She loved the celebration parties in Marathon, Florida after the 7-mile Bridge Run as well as local 4-mile events.

Those who knew Cindy cherished her generous spirit. She was a loyal and dedicated volunteer over many years at the Cozy Cat Cottage Adoption Center. Faith was important, and she frequently served as a lector at Saint Peters Catholic Church in Columbus, Ohio.

Cindy is preceded in death by her father, Phillip Ferrara; mother, Concetta Mannino Ferrara; mother-in-law, Sylvia Platt, and godson, Matthew Hall. Cindy’s family was her everything including her surviving husband of 23 years David Platt, step-daughters Katherine (Phil), Stephanie (Kris), and Kimberly, and grandchildren, Eloise, Annabelle, and Maren. Cindy is also survived by her three sisters, Arlene (Jim), Barbara (Mark), and Phyllis (Scott). All of her nieces and nephews will deeply cherish her memory. Her beloved cats, Sassy and Garnet, never left her side and always brought a smile to her face. Her passing leaves a significant void in our hearts. She leaves a remarkable legacy and will live in the hearts of all those who knew her. She is our guardian angel, providing strength and protection as she watches over us.

A celebration of Cindy’s life will take place in 2025 and announced to all. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cozy Cat Cottage in Powell, Ohio or charity of your choosing are welcome. Most importantly, expressions of your prayers and memories are appreciated in the online guestbook.
