Daniel J. Smith residing in Columbus, Ohio passed at home on March 5, 2024. He was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and was the only child of James and Helen who preceded him in death. Daniel was an avid reader from childhood throughout his life. He graduated from Holy Ghost Prep in Cornwall Heights, Pa. Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. as well as the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Daniel worked in the field of Geology in Butte, Montana as well as Sagamore Resort for many seasons over the years. Backpacked across Europe and spent time learning about wine in France. Owned and managed Gockey's Diner in Canal Fulton, Ohio. He followed his father working in the Steel Mill during the earlier years. Loved fishing and hunting with his dad. Dan was devoted to his mother, a celebrated artist oil painting and copper enameling. Daniel was raised as a Catholic and professed Jesus Christ as his Savior. He's survived by cousins; Linda Troy of Goodyear, AZ. And G. Frank Smith of Cheyenne, WY. And close friend and neighbor Pat Snider. There will be a private burial at Resurrection Cemetery.
