Daniel G. Wilson
June 19, 1935 — January 4, 2023
Daniel George Wilson, 87, passed away January 4, 2023. He was preceded in death by parents, Charles Lloyd and Hildreth Beatrice Wilson; siblings, Robert (Jean) Wilson, Connie (Kenneth) Whaley, and David Wilson; wife, Edna Wilson; grandson, Mark A. Wilson. Dan is survived by children, Regina Wilson, Daniel L. Wilson, Sharon Wilson, Stephen Wilson, Kelly Wilson, Robert "Bobby" Wilson, and Joel Wilson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Tom Wilson, John Wilson, and Nancy Cumbow.
He never graduated high school, but did obtain his G.E.D. He enlisted in the Navy at 17 on Oct. 2, 1952, and was stationed in Japan for several years. He later met the love of his life, Edna who became his wife for over 40 years. They raised 7 children together.
After serving for 8 years he received an honorable discharge from the Navy, but later re-enlisted sometime during the Desert Storm era. He served as a reservist and traveled to Spain. He was promoted to Chief Petty Officer at the time of his retirement back in Oct. 1993.
During this time, he was also employed at the formerly known Western Electric located on E. Broad St. and later retired after 24 yrs.
He was very active with his religious career too, had numerous churches, a radio program, created a monthly magazine to support his organization, World Missions. He was a Bishop in the Church of God organization. He traveled numerous times to India and once to Africa to visit the HIV crisis there. Later he began traveling to Belize and Guatemala to do missionary work and help with building churches in both of those countries. When he could no longer travel, he continued to financially support them and most of the time from his own income.
He was at peace with his life towards the end and told us he had no fear of going home, because he knew he would be with his heavenly Father.
Visitation Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 1pm until the time of Funeral Service at 2pm at Parsons Avenue Church of God, 3389 Parsons Ave., Columbus, OH 43207.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Daniel's memory to World Children's Fund.
