On May 7, 2023, David Louis Kern (born January 28, 1962) passed surrounded by family in his home in Columbus, Ohio after a long and courageous fight with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Julieta Kern; his children, Christimae Gonzales, Michael Kern, Jacob Kern, and Catherine Kern; his nephew and niece and their families; and many close friends.
Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, David is the son of Jacqueline Kern and Louis Kern and brother of Jerry Kern and Tom Kern. A lover of traveling, David spent many years in the Philippines but ultimately spent most of his time in his family's hometown of Columbus.
Loved ones will fondly remember David's love of craftsmanship and art. Throughout his life, he took pride in his family's affinity to create and took up several creative passions including glass carving, woodworking, metalworking, graphic design, and sketching. He made several family businesses where he sold his art and displayed his passions. He was also very passionate about politics and ensuring citizens practiced their right to vote. He was a person who sought equity and equality for all and had a strong sense of morals, justice, and integrity. Towards the later part of his life, he dedicatedly worked several elections as a polling staff member.

Loved ones know that at any given time, one could call David and catch him in the middle of watching a documentary, researching something fantastical, watching films, creating something, recording an EVP session, or debating politics.
On May 22, 1993, David married his dedicated and loving wife, Julieta Kern in the Philippines. Together they moved back to the United States and raised their four children to be morally strong, dedicated, resilient, hardworking, and ambitious. A quote that David shared repeatedly with is children by John Lennon, "Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans", reminds others to enjoy each day to its fullest. As a father and husband, David will be missed.
David had many loving friends who supported him throughout his life. The Kern family would like to thank Rob Taggart in particular for being so dear and dedicated to David. For all of his friends, David will be extremely missed.
