David William Lemay

August 26, 1945 — February 17, 2022

David William LeMay, 76, of Lewis Center, Ohio, and formerly of Delaware, Ohio and Baldwinsville, New York, passed away on Thursday, February 17th. Born August 26, 1945 in Kingsville, Texas, he was the son of the late Ernest Gilpin LeMay Jr. and Joan Willyoung LeMay.

A graduate of Harborfields High School in Greenlawn, NY, he continued his education at Keystone Junior College in LaPlume, PA. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam.

Dave was a maintenance supervisor for many years for Anheuser-Busch in Columbus, retiring in 2006. Previously, he worked for the Miller Brewing Company in Fulton, NY, and the Mars Cup Co. in Huntington Station, NY.

He was active in the Boy Scouts of America with Troop 107 of Baldwinsville, NY for many years, including as Scoutmaster, and traveled to Philmont Scout Reservation in New Mexico.

An avid aviation enthusiast, Dave had been a private pilot for many years, flying a variety of small airplanes including Cessnas, an Aeronca Champ and a Stinson Voyager. Since 2009 he was a volunteer with the Champaign Aviation Museum in Urbana, OH, helping with the construction of the B-17 "Champaign Lady". He was a longtime member of AOPA, and the Experimental Aviation Association.

Since the age of fifteen, Dave enjoyed the hobby of amateur radio. Licensed as WB2CWJ, he had a special talent for satellite communication and alternative power. He was active in the Delaware (OH) Amateur Radio Association for nearly 30 years, and was a longtime member of the ARRL. Dave was also an active participant in the Delaware County Amateur Radio Emergency Service, providing emergency communication for local agencies.

He also enjoyed honing his grilling skills, camping, travelling, and small boat sailing.

Dave is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia Sanctuary LeMay; children Andrew (Josephine) LeMay, Michael LeMay, Cynthia (Dennis) Overholts; grandchildren Tanner Overholts, Erik LeMay, Adriano LeMay, and Sutton Overholts; sisters Diana LeMay-Hamel, Bonnie L. Rothchild, Robin L. Knight; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and his brothers, Ernest G. LeMay III, Thomas C. LeMay, and Richard M. LeMay.
