Dawn Scott

December 6, 1967 — September 6, 2023

If you are reading this, you will realize very quickly this is not a "normal" obituary. That's because my mom was not an ordinary woman. She was a special woman to so many special people.

I sit here looking out at the backyard and see the different colors of the plants and flowers and I see the big bumblebees and the birds at the bird feeders. I think that's what heaven is like for my momma. The only way I can picture her is in heaven laying on a swing listening to the birds chirping and watching her hummingbird.

My mom was called home to the Lord after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. I have never seen anyone in my life handle cancer quite like she did. She never let it affect her or those around her. She was cancer's boss. I choose to think that she didn't lose her battle with AML, she was just too good to deal with it here on Earth anymore.

My mom was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 6, 1967, and took her last breath at 3:55 pm at the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio on September 6, 2023. She did it her way as a true school employee at Southwestern City Schools for 23 years and waited for the final school bell before she took her last breath.

My mom married my dad (John David Scott) on March 27, 1993, in Grove City at Saint John's Lutheran Church and like most things in our life, it didn't go perfectly - it rained, mom got locked out of the church and her dress was missing. My mom and dad were married for 30 and a half years and loved each other more than words can ever say - they were truly one another's better half.

Then came me, Hurricane Hannah (Hannah Jean Scott) on an early stormy morning on January 4, 2000. I'm sure you've realized at this point that I've referred to Dawn as my mom throughout this whole thing and that's because being my mom was who she was. She never missed any moments in my life - heck I still remember our softball district finals game my sophomore year of high school when she had just had her gallbladder out, she couldn't stand up straight, but you can bet she was right there up against the fence cheering me on like always. One thing I know is that my momma truly loved me more than anything in the world until the very end and that she will be watching over me for the rest of my life.

Dawn was preceded in death by mother, Sandra Tanner. She is survived by her loving husband, John David Scott; daughter, Hannah Jean Scott; brother, Jeff (Tera) Tanner; numerous nieces and nephews.
