Dean Elmer Herman passed away on July 28, 2021 in his home in Grove City, OH where he has lived since October of 2021. He was born on June 24, 1935 to C. Ida Herman and Elmer J. Herman in Jefferson, OH. He graduated from Jefferson Area High School in 1953. Dean married Iva Britton on February 25, 1956 at Jefferson First Baptist Church.

He was a union carpenter for forty years. Dean and Iva owned the Jefferson Clothesline Laundry for eighteen years. Dean was a twenty year volunteer fireman with the Jefferson Fire Department. He served as Chief upon the death of Tony Lachey and served in that capacity for five years. During his time as Fire Chief, The Jefferson Rescue Department was implemented. While serving as a volunteer fireman he also served as President of the Ashtabula County Fireman's Association and the Ashtabula County Fire Chiefs Association.

Dean was a member of Jefferson Grange for 65 years. He was a former member of the Jefferson Squares Dance Club. Dean spent many years helping the Jefferson Garden Club with their many projects around town. He was a long time supporter of the Cleveland Indians, Cavaliers and Browns. He was also a forever follower of The Ohio State Buckeyes and Jefferson High School Football. He supported his family in all of their various activities throughout their lives. They spent many hours boating and waterskiing on Lake Erie. He also loved dancing, music, fishing and yard work.

Dean is survived by his wife Iva and two daughters, Teresa (Mitch) Burton of Fuquay-Varina, N.C. and Lori (late Richard) Kidwell of Grove City, OH. He is survived by his grandson Adam (Jessica) Kidwell of Richmond Hill, GA., granddaughters Deana (John) Schlax of Durham, N.C., Jennifer Kidwell of Grove City, OH., and Christi Burnett of Fuquay-Varina, N.C. He is survived by fourteen great-grandchildren: Harper, Eli and Brooks Kidwell, Silas, Evalyn, Kaila, Stella, Titus and Ruth Schlax, Jon and Bryan Martinez, Michael, Mia and Avery Burnett. Nephew Ron (Deb) Herman of Deland, FL and niece Becky (Tony) Adame of Jacksonville, FL. Sister-in-law Wanda Mackey and brother-in-laws Leushin (Lorraine) Britton and David (Rosalie) Britton. He is survived by several nieces and nephews on Iva's side.

Dean is preceded by his parents Elmer and Ida Herman, in-laws Hughie and Mae Britton, brother and sister-in-law Neil and Ella Mae Herman, sister-in-law Sylvia Reid and brothers-in-law Ural, Robert, Donald Ray, Hancel, Sylvester and Arlie Norman Britton. Nephews and nieces on both sides of the family.

A celebration of life open house will be held on September 25, 2021 at the Jefferson Community Center, 11 E. Jefferson St, Jefferson, OH from 1pm to 3:30pm.
