Derek J. Abel, 22, Westerville, went to be face to face with Jesus, on December 28, 2011, as the result of an accident. Derek was born in Walnut Creek, CA on January 16, 1989, to David Goding and Sherry Abel Chapin. Derek is survived by his parents, David (Juliet Hanania) Goding and Sherry (Michael) Chapin; brothers, Gideon & Paul Chapin; grandparents, Michael & Patricia Abel, Carmen Abel & Joe Howard, Diane & Charles Zimmerman, Kenneth & Laura Chapin, Paul & Sharon Goding; great-grandmother, Mary Forrest; great-grandfather, Elmer Goding; aunts, uncles, cousin and many beloved friends. Derek was a member of Vineyard Columbus. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012, 4-8 PM at Vineyard Columbus, 6000 Cooper Road, Westerville, OH 43081. A Funeral Service, with visitation one hour prior, will be held at Vineyard Columbus on Friday, January 6, 2012, 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in support of his youngest brother and autism research, to Oakstone Academy, 2655 Oakstone Drive, Columbus, OH 43231.
