Derrick Austin

February 22, 1974 — July 4, 2020

Derrick Lee Austin, 46, of Columbus, OH fell asleep in death
unexpectedly the early hours of July 4th, 2020.

Derrick was born February 22, 1974, in Columbus, OH to John and Dorothy Austin Sr.

The day Derrick was born he was not breathing his color was blue. The doctor rush
his delivery by pulling him by his left arm. Then the doctor punctured his lung to get
oxygen in allowing him breathing and it saved his life. We worried about brain
damage. He proved quite the opposite.

Derrick was determined not to let his health or physical disabilities control his life.
Starting with grade school throughout High school Derrick almost had perfect attendance. He received numerous Achievement Awards. He was one of the only students in West High School that spoke fluent languages Latin, Spanish, Cambodian, French and English.

In August of 1992 Derrick was just 18 years old when he started working for Columbus Metropolitan Library. Not many people say they love where they work but Derrick could! Because he loved taking in all the knowledge he could, he loved reading, he loved studying and he love reading all kinds of books. The library was his ideal job.
His co-workers considered him one of the kindest and most dedicated staff members they've known. He was always willing to help in any way he could, without expecting anything in return. Derrick was known for his quiet, humble nature, yet his work was incredibly important to library operations.

In July 21, 1971 Derrick Lee Austin made a major decision to dedicate his life to Jehovah God. He did this by water baptism at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, OH. He has enjoyed studying the bible with others and aiding them to dedicating their lives to Jehovah. Derrick enjoyed volunteering and auxiliary pioneering on his vacations. Derrick received special permission to teach the bible to troubled young youth.

Derrick was very quiet but had a wealth of spiritual knowledge and encouragement when I needed him. His quote to me "maybe Jehovah has something else planned for you". I loved him for that advice.

Derrick did not have any children but his nephews and nieces were like sisters and brothers in age. They went to school together and play together.

Uncle Derrick...

"My Mom was like Mom to him because she was 17 years older than him...he always came to family events and could explain the book of Revelations at the age of 10..., spoke other language, he never married or had any children... he served Jehovah till the end so I am sure Jehovah will remember him and he will wake up in the Paradise and see his Mom (my grandma) who he has all always been close to and he was missing her so much."

"He loved Jehovah and he loved to cook. Reading and Drawing he used to draw little cutout dolls for us when we were little and play with us...he loved reading comic books with us and making voices of the characters. He loved collecting and working with Barbies. He was a good listener and he loved learning new languages, he loved to laugh, he was encouraging and he also gave really great talks at the Hall."

Derrick looked forward to Jehovah God restoring the earth to a Paradise, free from all sickness and disease. Luke 23:42, 43 Revelation 21:1-4
