Dinkar Shantilal Vakil, 89, of Columbus, Ohio, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and neighbor, died peacefully at his home on December 16, 2022.
He is survived by his three children, Samir Vakil, Mona Sanghvi, and Alpa Desai, his daughters- and sons-in-law Punita Vakil, Kamlesh Sanghvi, and Sanjeev Desai, his grandchildren, Chandni, Sughosh, Adit, Sagar, and Akash, his great-grandchild Maya, as well as many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Kundan Vakil.
Dinkar was born in Dholka, Gujarat on October 4, 1933 to Shantilal and Rukhmani Vakil. He graduated from H.A. College of Commerce in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. In 1958, he married his beloved wife, Kundan, with whom he raised three loving children during a marriage lasting 54 years until Kundan's passing in 2012. He immigrated to the United States in 1982, with his family following him shortly after. While in the United States, he worked many jobs including for the state of Ohio and for a local movie theater spanning a length of more than 15 years, in order to provide for his family.
He enjoyed following Indian news and politics, going to the gym where he was a familiar face to all who had the pleasure of knowing his friendly smile, playing cards, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all others who knew him.
Dinkar's funeral service will be held at Newcomer NW Columbus Chapel in Powell, Ohio at 2:30pm on December 20.
